Congratulations to all those who participated in the Social Distancing 24in48 Readathon over this past weekend! How did y’all do? 24in48 Readathon – March 21-22, 2020

24in48_v2-03_full-color

It’s time for the 24in48 Readathon!!! This is the perfect time for a readathon, as we are  all sitting at home (away from other people), trying to remain calm and healthy. Isolation is bearable with the company of books.

When does the Readathon begin?

Hour 0, aka the official kickoff of the #StayHome24in48 readathon, will be at 12:00am on Saturday, March 21st, Eastern time.

What are my Readathon goals?

Time:
Since all my other plans for this weekend have officially been canceled, and I am trying to stay inside and away from people as much as possible, I think I can definitely accomplish 24 hours of reading this weekend.

TBR:
These are the books I hope to finish this weekend:

  • Jane of Austin by Hillary Manton Lodge
  • Anna Karenina (Parts 3 & 4 for a Buddy Read) by Leo Tolstoy
  • The Joy of Missing Out by Tonya Dalton

Books I will start if I finish the above:

  • My Greek Island Summer by Mandy Baggot
  • The Fact of a Body by Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich
  • Murder with Mirrors by Agatha Christie

Social Media:
I will be posting updates on multiple social media outlets:

24in48 Readathon – July 20-21

24in48_v2-03_full-color

It’s time for the 24in48 Readathon!!! Due to work, summer activities, vacations, and vacation planning, I’ve had little time to devote to my reading, so I am looking forward to dedicating some time this weekend to hopefully finishing the many books I am in the middle of right now.

When does the Readathon begin?

Hour 0, aka the official kickoff of the July #24in48 readathon, will be at 12:01am on Saturday, July 20th, Eastern time.

What are my Readathon goals?

Time:
While it would be nice if I could actually read for 24 hours over the course of the weekend, I unfortunately have other obligations, so my time will be a bit limited. My goal is to focus on reading when I am at home, so hope to read for at least 15 hours.

TBR:
These are the books I hope to finish this weekend:

  • East of Eden: Part 3 by John Steinbeck (part of a friend readalong I am participating in)
  • The Road to Little Dribbling by Bill Bryson (part of my Focus on Authors Challenge)
  • The Book Charmer by Karen Hawkins (NetGalley ARC)

Books I will continue reading or start if I finish the above:

  • Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
  • A Notes from a Small Island by Bill Bryson
  • Dreams from My Father by Barack Obama

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Time for another WWW Wednesdays, which is brought to you by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words. If you too want to participate, answer the above questions and post that link on Sam’s page.

I’ve been a bit MIA the last few weeks. I had a busy time at work and then got to go on vacation to visit my folks in my hometown of Milwaukee. This was a busy vacation, so I didn’t get to read too much, but since I am playing catch-up, it looks like I read a lot. I’m back on track with reading for book clubs and starting my Bill Bryson’s reads for my monthly reading challenge (A Focus on Authors Reading Challenge). I hope to read lots this weekend for the 24in48 Readathon. Anyone else participating?

24in48 Readathon – January 26-27

24in48_v2-03_full-colorWe are less than two hours away from the beginning of the 24in48 Readathon! After a long and exhausting work week, I could use some good quality time with my books.

TBR:
Here is what I am hoping to read this weekend:

I will be reading in a wide variety of formats, including audiobooks, an ebook and a physical book. This variety should make the 24 hours go by really quickly.

MY WEEKEND IS ALL BOOKED!!!

24in48 Readathon – July 2018

readathon1

It’s almost time! After a few very busy workweeks and weekends, I am looking forward to focusing on my reading life again by participating in this weekend’s 24in48 Readathon.

For those who have never participated in this readathon before, it begins at 12:01am (EST) on Saturday, July 21 and ends at 11:59pm (EST) on Sunday, July 22. During this 48-hour period of time, you try to read for at least 24 hours. I tracked my time during the last 24in48 Readathon by using the stopwatch on my phone, though I have a fear that I will be close to 24 hours when I will accidentally cancel my timer. I welcome any other suggestions.

If you want to participate, please go to the Sign-up page. I recommend signing up even if you don’t think you will read for the full 24 hours. Just by signing up, you are entered into free prizes, which is a nice benefit for participating. There are also challenges throughout the 48-hour period to give you a little break from reading.

Readathon TBR

I don’t believe I will actually read all these books over the course of the weekend, but I like to be prepared. During readathons, I also like to read in different platforms, which include: e-books, audiobooks and physical books. Here is my pile:

Kindle E-books (all NetGalley ARCs):

Audiobooks (via my library’s free Libby app):

Happy Reading!

24 in 48 Readathon

result_1517025991560

I joined a book-related social media app called Litsy about five months ago. Through this app I’ve discovered so many community-based activities for booklovers, and that includes learning about the 24 in 48 Readathon, where you read for 24 hours out of 48 hours on January 27-28th, 2018. I’ve participated in Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon, and thought this readathon seemed a bit more doable, since this readathon allows some sleep time. The other cool thing about this readathon is that it provided a lot of free giveaways. It appeared that many book-related companies and publishers donated prizes. While I was not fortunate enough to win anything, it was still fun to try.

The above photo was my stack of books and an audiobook to prepare for the 24 in 48 Readathon. Here is my ongoing status reports throughout my 24 hours of reading:

I did manage to complete this readathon. To summarize what I accomplished during the 24 in 48 Readathon, I completed the following books:

  • News of the World by Paulette Jiles
  • Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
  • Behind Closed Doors by B. A. Paris

I also listened to more than six hours of this audiobook:

  • The Serial Killer Whisperer by Pete Earley

This was a fun way to work toward any reading goals that you may have given yourself for 2018. Plus, you get to do it with a community of people just like you, who don’t mind spending their weekends mostly reading.

ROCKED IT!!!!
